Mug Shot

Chak Hin Leung

Linocuts, collage of 3 different flags

This is a self portrait that I made after hearing all the news about the trump administration revoking intentional student's visa all around the nation. As an intentional student who's from Hong Kong, I decided to come to United States thinking I would have a better environment for me to make art. However, once again, I feel like my right to voice myself have slowly been taken away from me again. In this piece, I decided to print on a collage flag that represents my struggles with identity and nationality. The figure itself taking the mug shot represents the fact that what I am doing or who I am as an artist are not welcome in all three of the places(China, Hong Kong, and United States).

I think this is a powerful piece that represents protest using art. And I think my piece shows the struggles of lots of intentional student which is the struggles of self belongings and identity.
