Can You See Me?

Ember Burnside

 Oil paint on canvas

2026

This work was inspired from my life long thoughts of both abandonment and perception of others. I would say, ever since age 9, I have felt overly critical and too self aware of my behavior when other people are present. As I’ve grown older, this has manifested still in my current relationships with friends and family. I’ve found myself never feeling satisfied with how other people perceive me, or how I imagine they do. The figure underneath the colorful glitch is me, at a party with two friends, which reflects how I don’t feel truly seen by the people around me and the fear of being left behind
