Tea Party

Keiden Carlos

Acrylic on Canvas

2024

This piece is a reflection of my time at EvCC. Entering EvCC during peak pandemic as a junior highschool running start student was demanding. It was difficult for me to adjust to college classes on a campus that was still locked down, much less make friends. However, as restrictions began to lift, I found safe spaces at EvCC where I’ve had invaluable experiences. From my teachers who encouraged, guided, and helped me gain confidence in my passions to launch a career, to the classmates and friends I’ve met who’ve supported me through every step.

I hope to celebrate those exciting times I’ve had on campus the past couple of years, learning, growing, painting together after class, and holding “tea times”.

This painting is a cumulation of all the skills I’ve learned in class/personally at EvCC. I hand made the canvas from scratch, the frame from wood and stretched the canvas by hand. It is the biggest canvas I’ve worked on thus far. I was able to create this thanks to Sam Case, other teachers, and friends, providing me space to work in Whitehorse and encouragement for my work.

All the money I earn from this painting will be going towards my tuition next year, as I look forward to transferring to the University of Washington to further my education and pursue an arts career.
