What would you tell your eight-year-old self if you could? What would your eight-year-old self tell you? How do you feel about who you have become? These are a few of the questions I posed to an audience and then received anonymous answers online. Without editing these responses, I put the text of these strangers’ answers with a photo of myself, carelessly dancing at a young age. The responses are color-coordinated to different feelings evoked through the text. Yellow finds joy in the response, green represents advice, dark blue is a connection to the younger self, light blue represents regret, orange equates to bravery, pink to pride, and red to fearless. The colors show the range of emotions we feel about ourselves and our younger selves. There is no right way to think or feel about growth, but it is important to spend time thinking: what are you most proud of about yourself?
