Living away from family and my hometown is difficult. I tend to find myself not only missing places, streets, people, my moms coffee, but mostly food, my grandma’s cooking. I wanted to create a side dish that I love and used to eat all the time, it is called Kubbeh. This meat pie is made with minced lamb meat and Bulgur and stuffed with more meat, spices and pine nuts. The process of making this dish took so long so usually my Teta would make a huge batch and freeze it so we can fry them freshly whenever we want. I find myself craving this dish a lot, especially that it’s difficult to make, so I simply never tried to make it. I connected the idea of craving such a difficult dish to the hallucination that can accrue from hunger. My thought process was how can I create an absurd bizarre idea of kubbeh craving hallucination. I started remembering how my Teta used to open the dough, stuff and close them in a very specific way and then align them next to each other.  The overall idea was craving kubbeh so much that I started hallucinating everything to be kubbeh. Cereal as small kubbeh, fried chicken bucket as kubbeh bucket and fried kubbeh, and lastly the craving was very strong that I also became kubbeh. All these kubbehs had faces that look confused and wondering why they are Kubbeh shaped.
