Persona
Persona is inspired by writing on the case for the 16th century artist Ridolfo del Ghirlandaio’s The Veiled Woman. The inscription “SVA CVIQUE PERSONA”, meaning "to each their own mask", was set next to a sculpted mask on the outside of the case. This painting was created during the Renaissance and reflects the culture’s ideas of one’s public person and private self, especially among the elite. My work parallels this idea on social masks in relation to the political world today, where populism has taken over politics, with sales pitches and bargaining chips acting as policies and moral statements for voters.
