 Ceramic & Acrylic Paint2023

In my work, I’ve been playing with the combination of crudeness and innocence in physical forms, as a way to dissect the humor I grew up around. With Deborah, I considered the way my family uses women as the punchline of their jokes, and the implications that these loose remarks have on our familial dynamics through each generation. Growing up I was less aware of the impact these one liners had on my idea of being female and embracing sexuality and my body's autonomy. I’ve also always thought it was unfair that female mallards had dull colored feathers, while their male. counterparts get to have ones more beautiful and bright. I felt combining these two ideas emphasized this inequality I’ve been accustomed to accepting, but at the same time presenting it in a weird and funny-to-me style.
