At night, we are our most vulnerable and open to creation. The emotions of the day and the senses we experienced flash before you: the feeling of the dirt under your fingernails, the flavor seeping out of that gum you’ve been chewing for an hour, the sounds of dogs barking next door when you took out the trash.
As the day turns to night and things begin to lose their shape, experiences spiral through your mind searching for the outlines of things not present and unexplainable, memories of a time long ago or a time yet to come.
Nocturne asks you to explore the omnipresent senses you feel in the nighttime and make them tangible. What do you notice at night when you can no longer rely on your eyes? How does this dulling of one sense allow the others to come to the forefront? Show us the forms which guide your art-making, your inspiration, and your personhood. How does nighttime serve as a catalyst? What world appears when you wake?
