These works are part of an ongoing series exploring the notion of bodily autonomy by drawing parallels between issues of gender oppression and animal rights. Taking techniques of naturalism and dramatic, high contrast lighting taken from classical Western painting and reimagining them within the context of surrealist self portraiture. In doing so, they recast traditional roles of subject vs. object in art, reclaiming the use of the female body as a form of self expression, while at the same time combining it with animal figures in a darkly humorous manner that seeks to elevate the status of other non-human species as equal to that of our own.
